Since Congress passed the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004, it has been required by law to identify these allergens in packaged foods subject to FDA regulation. As one of the most common food allergens among people in the U.S., the recalled pizzas could cause serious health issues or death for those with soy allergies or sensitivities, the recall notice states. As such, the FDA cautions that susceptible individuals should not eat the recalled pizzas, although no illnesses or other ill effects had been reported at the time the recall was announced.
