According to the latest health data from The Post, as of March 30, the daily national average of new cases has increased 12 percent in the past week to 133 per 100,000 people. Additionally, more than half of all states have seen a rise in new cases, with 33 states showing an increase in the last seven days, 15 of which saw a major jump of 20 percent or more. The news also comes as some states begin to remove mask mandates and restrictions on indoor dining. During a White House COVID-19 response team press briefing on March 29, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) director Rochelle Walensky, MD, addressed the recent spike in cases and became visibly emotional while issuing a warning of the “impending doom” of COVID in the coming weeks. “I’m speaking today not necessarily as your CDC director and not only as your CDC director but as a wife, as a mother, as a daughter, to ask you to just please hold on a little while longer,” she pleaded with the public. “I so badly want to be done. I know you all so badly want to be done. We are just almost there, but not quite yet. … And so I’m asking you to just hold on a little longer, to get vaccinated when you can, so that all of those people that we all love will still be here when this pandemic ends.” Read on to find out which states are currently seeing COVID cases surge more than 20 percent since last week, according to March 30 data from The Washington Post, and for more on when we may be rid of COVID for good, check out This Is When the COVID Pandemic Will Be Completely Over, Experts Say.
